The oldest pub in South Africa

Did you know the oldest pub in South Africa is located in Buitenkant Street in Cape Town? Yup.

Even though it was built way-back-when in 1808, Perseverance Tavern or “Persies” only got its official wine and malt license in 1836. It was supposedly the tavern of choice for: “Cape luminaries such as Cecil John Rhodes, numerous politicians, academics, artists, sports- and businesspeople, European expatriates and colourful District 6 personalities.”
